GEORGE LAKEY, a nonviolent revolutionary and a deeply spiritual man with a rebel heart, will be presenting in Vermont in April 2023.
Dubbed “a civil rights legend” by The Guardian, George has been active in other movements as well: anti-apartheid, anti-Vietnam war, pro-labor, pro-LGBTQ, and pro- climate justice.
He has led over 1,500 trainings on five continents. His 11th book, a memoir, is Dancing with History: A Life for Peace and Justice.

April 29 (Saturday), 4:30 p.m. at the Congregational Church of Middlebury.
Books will be available for sale. After George’s talk he will sign books.
April 30 (Sunday), 11:30 a.m. at the Middlebury Friends Meeting, at Havurah, 56 N. Pleasant St., Middlebury. George will give an informal talk.

George was born into a white working-class family in rural Pennsylvania and has been active in direct action campaigns for seven decades. George was first arrested at a civil rights demonstration in March 1963, and his most recent arrest was in June 2021, during a climate justice march. A Quaker, he has been named Peace Educator of the Year and was given the Paul Robeson Social Justice Award and the Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Award. His previous books include Viking Economics: How the Scandinavians Got it Right--and How We Can Too and How We Win: A guide to Nonviolent Direct Action Campaigning.
